No offense or intent to be all RAR with your dream car! But, Id rather the wave of the future be a vehicle that does not run on gasoline at all. It's old technology that should have been upgraded decades ago. But, we all know why it hasn't! )':
野生キス[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 03:57 pm (UTC)
I totally agree. I'm looking towards hybrids and the like too, but DAMN if they aren't as cute :)
exmemoriter: mamimi kitty hat[info]exmemoriter on June 16th, 2008 04:21 pm (UTC)
I adore the look of this car. I really, really want one (and as soon as it's either hybrid or something else power-wise, I'll be all over it).

Holy crap it's so cute. (Terrible reason to like a car, I guess .. but I can't help it!) ;__;
野生キス[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 04:27 pm (UTC)
Because it's so small and only runs on 3 cylinders, it gets 33mph IN TOWN and like 41 HWY :P

(If it has to run on fuel, get fuel efficient right?)
exmemoriter: amelie[info]exmemoriter on June 16th, 2008 04:28 pm (UTC)
Agreed!

SMART CARS FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've wanted one ever since I saw them in Germany back in 1999!
野生キス[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 04:56 pm (UTC)
Yeah I almost forgot about them again, but then I noticed one in the grocery parking lot this weekend :G:

The two doors have room for me, Jack, and Eulalie... but not any stuff then. Hmm.
[info]thedauthi on June 16th, 2008 05:25 pm (UTC)
Mmm, smart. s'what all the geeky guys want. Were it not for long-distance driving, I would have picked one up instead of my current car.

I'm still hoping for a breakthrough in either fuel cell technology or battery energy density - it's about time for one. Moving energy production from under the hood to a power plant somewhere is a win-win situation.
野生キス: Me - Profile[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 05:31 pm (UTC)
The big companies really won't fund that sort of movement until it makes as much money as the fuel industry for them I suspect. I'm full of pessimism at seeing any giant, affordable leaps for some time to come.

I am looking around at all the sorts of cars that are available since I want to get a new car within the next year. Mom even volunteered to start teaching me how to drive a manual so I can look in that direction. Anything that conserves fuel is a great idea by me.
[info]thedauthi on June 16th, 2008 05:40 pm (UTC)
Well, as far as battery energy density, there's a billion -other- industries that want a huge increase, too. If we see an order-of-magnitude increase, I expect it to come from one of them, not from Big Oil.
野生キス: Moon Phases[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 05:52 pm (UTC)
And with big oil unable (or unwilling. I should say a little of both) to stop the increase in oil market prices, the demand for alternate methods ought to increase as well.

At least I'd like to think so.
[info]thedauthi on June 16th, 2008 08:18 pm (UTC)
I think it will. The current-gen biofuels become price-effective at about $6/gallon. Not that we want to use biofuels, but at least it's not oil.
But I really expect (and hope!) the next big breakthrough to be in energy storage, not distribution or production.
野生キス: LMAO[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 08:25 pm (UTC)
And maybe they'll all look like Honda's Puyo:

hah!
[info]thedauthi on June 16th, 2008 08:33 pm (UTC)
It's an SUV/golf cart. As aerodynamic as a brick, and kinda looks like one.
野生キス[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 08:42 pm (UTC)
I think US golf carts are bigger than that!
nirvanawalker[info]nirvanawalker on June 16th, 2008 05:26 pm (UTC)
You will never be without a parking space in that compact little guy (or girl ;]).
野生キス: Anime - Buttercup[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 05:28 pm (UTC)
Jack suggested we both get one, and park in the same space hah!

That car reminds me of this:

野生キス[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 06:25 pm (UTC)
Haha that's a great closeup!
Эшли[info]asukamisu on June 16th, 2008 07:43 pm (UTC)
I was looking at the Smart Car website yesterday as a matter of fact. I'd really like to get one.
野生キス[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 07:51 pm (UTC)
As Dauthi points out, they're not really best for interstate/long travel. But if I had a car like this, and Jack had a more traditional car like his Volvo or something else later I think it'd be good.
Эшли[info]asukamisu on June 16th, 2008 07:53 pm (UTC)
That's exactly what Tara and I were saying: have this for a nice around town car that you only have to fill up once or twice a month then have a small SUV for everything else.
野生キス: Me - Thumbs Up[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 08:07 pm (UTC)
It sounds like a good plan to me, too!
Fae: Scion xA[info]faefall on June 16th, 2008 09:46 pm (UTC)
I love the look of the smart and it is actually even smaller then MY car. It is tiny...no more then two people at a time and shopping and trips...well not very much will fit. I know this because I was have been stopping and looking in windows when I have seen them in person and the Van Pelt has been looking at them online.

All that aside...if I had somewhere around $16K that I can just do whatever with I would be having me a Smart car.
野生キス: Anime - Twin Ho Ho?[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 09:58 pm (UTC)
That's a fully loaded two door Smart. The basic is like 12 or 13kish.

*peer* what kind of car is that?
Fae: Scion xA[info]faefall on June 16th, 2008 11:03 pm (UTC)
I have 2006 Scion xA which is actually rather roomy for all of its smallness and I get 30 to 32 miles per gallon driving in the city. I love my car...it is the first and only car I have ever purchased brand new...had 26 miles on it when I drove it off the lot.

I think the Smart car is adorable...it is on my items I don't really need wish list.
野生キス[info]wyldkyss on June 16th, 2008 11:11 pm (UTC)
Oooh what a long list that must be ;)
goth_kittykat[info]goth_kittykat on June 17th, 2008 03:10 am (UTC)
saw one of these yesterday. people up here are pretty green.
maximas_girl[info]maximas_girl on June 17th, 2008 02:45 pm (UTC)
i totally want an aircar. they are getting them in india. estimated 1000mpg, compared to gasoline cars. and if it were those cute colors i would want the transformer noise whenever i opened the door. "more than meets the eye..."
野生キス[info]wyldkyss on June 17th, 2008 03:13 pm (UTC)
It IS the future.
We're supposed to have flying cars by now.
